Felix Rosenqvist sweeps to Hockenheim win

Felix Rosenqvist claimed his second FIA Formula 3 European Championship win of the season as he out-scored his rivals and completed a podium clean-sweep at Hockenheim this weekend.

The Swedish Prema Powerteam man got proceedings off to the best possible start as he headed the times in free practice at the German venue, and then kept the momentum going with an asserted qualifying performance – which netted him pole position for each of the three races.

The 2014 Macau Grand Prix winner went on to finish as runner-up in a rain-hit Race 1, but returned to the top of the sheets in the subsequent second race on Saturday, dominating the event to set a string of fastest laps on his way to a nine-second victory. Rosenqvist then came home second again in Sunday’s Race 3 (which took place on a wet but drying track).

Rosenqvist leaves Hockenheim now sitting third in the overall standings, where he trails leader Antonio Giovinazzi (Italy) by just 14 points after two championship rounds.

“A solid weekend with a lot of points in the bag,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “We have topped every qualifying session so far this year, which is very promising for the rest of the season, and being on the podium in each of the three races here shows that we’ve got a consistent package. We could probably have done one or two things differently in the wet on Sunday, but all in all it’s been a positive weekend. The team has done a great job with the car – I have a lot of confidence behind the wheel, and that translates into lap time. Now, we have to keep on working hard ahead of the next race, which is one of my favourites of the year.”

Next up on the 2015 FIA F3 European Championship calendar is the prestigious Grand Prix de Pau street race in southern France – an event won by Rosenqvist in 2014. The mammoth 35-car field is set to regroup at the challenging city-centre venue on May 15-17.
