Felix Rosenqvist on fringes of podium in 2014 finale

Felix Rosenqvist, Hockenheim 4Felix Rosenqvist brought the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship campaign to a close with fifth, sixth and fourth respectively in this weekend’s three races at the Hockenheim finale.

Rosenqvist’s best shot at the podium came in the third and final race of the meeting on Sunday, with the Swede setting off from third on the grid following a strong qualifying showing.

The Mücke Motorsport man, however, dropped behind Britain’s Jordan King on the opening lap, and eventually had to make do with fourth – although he could at least take some comfort from having beaten both 2014 champion Esteban Ocon and 2015 Toro Rosso Formula 1 signing Max Verstappen across the line in the final race of the season.

Rosenqvist ends up eighth in the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship standings, having scored one victory as he triumphed in the Grand Prix de Pau street race at the beginning of the summer.

“I was hoping to take at least one podium away from here this weekend, so I’m obviously disappointed,” says Felix Rosenqvist. “The pace just wasn’t strong enough in the final race, where I had my best shot, and it’s been pretty much the same story all year. It’s been difficult. I will now sit down with the team and analyse what I could have done better, and what we could have done better together, to make sure I learn from this season for the future. It’s the worst feeling in the world not to achieve your targets, but one thing is for sure: I’ll be back.”

While the FIA Formula 3 European Championship season is now over, Felix Rosenqvist has one race remaining ahead of him in 2014; the blue-riband Formula 3 world finale on the streets of Macau (China) in November.
