2014 pre-season testing: Hungaroring | Day 2 – Felix on top

Felix RosenqvistFelix brought the opening FIA Formula 3 European Championship pre-season test of the year to a close by setting the fastest lap of the weekend at the Hungaroring on Saturday.

The second and final day of running at the Budapest venue saw Mücke Motorsport continue the work commenced yesterday, with further back-to-back set-up comparisons and engine evaluation.

Felix completed a comprehensive programme, covering a full 94 laps over the course of the day, and wound up setting the pace on a 1m36.080s effort – the fastest time recorded over the two days - on a late morning run. Joining him in the top five were three Carlin cars (Antonio Giovinazzi, Jake Dennis and Tom Blomqvist) and Van Amersfoort Racing’s Max Verstappen.

FIA Formula 3 European Championship testing continues at the Red Bull Ring – scene of Felix’s historic triple win of last season – next week.

 FELIX’S VIEW:

“It’s been a good test for us, and we’ve completed a lot of valuable running. Most importantly, we believe we have identified the areas we need to work on going forwards, and we will continue to make as much progress as possible in Austria next week. There are some tyre heat-up issues to look into, amongst other things.

“As for our pace, it’s always encouraging to top the timesheets, although it’s not something we’re really focussing on at this stage. My target this year is to win the title and we seem to have the potential to challenge for that, but there is still a lot of work to do and there is no room for complacency in this championship. A solid start, though, and it’s great to be back on track!”
